Dr. Fotis E. Psomopoulos is currently an Academic Fellow at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) and a Research Associate at the Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH). Since 2005 he has been working as a Research Fellow on several EU-funded research projects both at CERTH, initially at the Information Technologies Institute (ITI) and then at the Institute of Applied Biosciences (INAB), as well as at the Information Processing Lab (IPL) in the Dpt. of Electrical and Computer Engineering at AUTH. Between 2004 and 2010 he worked as a Teaching Assistant in the same Department and, during the academic year 2011-2012, as an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Western Macedonia. He has organised several seminar Lectures at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki on Bioinformatics, as well as two international EGI-affiliated workshops on the use of Grid and Cloud Computing in Life Sciences.

His research interests lay across three major pillars; (a) Bioinformatics and the evolutionary analysis of genomes based on their protein data, (b) data mining methods and techniques in order to analyse the vast amount of data involved, and (c) Grid and Cloud Computing in order to ensure the necessary computational power and to optimize the developed methods for large-scale approaches. His expertise at the intersection of Bioinformatics and Grid Computing allows him a unique insight into the specific requirements and bottlenecks expected in large scale computational approaches in Life Sciences. As such, and since 2013, he has been selected as an EGI (European Grid Infrastructure) Champion for Bioinformatics.
